Dercum’s Disease Researcher is Recognized!
ByFDRS is pleased that Dr. Karen Herbst, USCD, has been nominated to the Rare Disease Day Research Hall of Fame for her work with Dercum’s Disease (adiposis dolorosa). It is wonderful that a research doctor is being recognized for her work with one of the fat disorders! Hopefully this nomination will aid us in bringing fat disorders much-needed awareness to both the medical community and general public.

Again, thanks to all of you that nominated this wonderful Fat Disorders researcher!

Hi, I have been diagnosed with Sjogren’s and just recently have noticed a lot of lipomas in my forearms, now I think one is pressing on a nerve in my elbow. I have had tingling and pain in arms from elbow to wrist for a bit and docs don’t have much to say when I tell them about it. I am wondering if it is Dercum’s but will probably have to wait and see. Wish there was a biopsy or something to diagnose with. Have dieted forever and had gastric bypass in 2002 and still gain, can’t keep it off for any length of time. Have had “fat pain” for a long time but didn’t know why and never brought it up to docs. mostly around rib cage, now the arm lipomas and some fat lumps above each knee too but I thought might be from giving self B12 shots in upper legs for a few years but now I wonder, recently gained up to total of 300! that’s my highest and I haven’t changed diet much. I do over eat but I don’t think that much. anyway, just wanted to share.
