The Fat Disorders Research Society, Inc. is dedicated to spreading awareness and raising funds for research into a series of rare adipose (fat) disorders, such as Dercum’s Disease, Lipedema, Lipo-Lymphedema, Madelung’s Disease, Familial Multiple Lipomatosis, and the other rare disorders related to abnormal distribution of fat.
“The Fat Disorders Research Society, Inc. exists to raise funding for research into treatments and cures, and to educate the medical/research community about these painful rare fat disorders.
Many patients with fat disorders have gone undiagnosed for years, only to be told to lose weight, exercise, and/or seek psychological help.
Our goal is that one day medical professionals will readily recognize the symptoms of Dercum’s Disease, Madelung’s Disease, Lipedema, and Familial Multiple Lipomatosis, as well as the other fat disorders.
Fat disorders research is currently inadequate and grossly underfunded. The Fat Disorders Research Society, Inc. will be exploring all options to remedy this lack of funding.
